Registration opens for 13th Annual Garnet E. Peck Symposium in Pharmacy

The 13th Annual Garnet E. Peck Symposium in Pharmacy will be held March 30-31 at Purdue, presented by the College of Pharmacy and the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy (IPPH).

Co-chaired by IPPH faculty members Lynne S. Taylor and Keith Chadwick, the symposium will use the theme “Pharmaceutical Crystallization: Fundamentals and Applications.” The program features presentations by renowned pharmaceutical researchers from academia and industry, as well as poster sessions and presentations from graduate students.

A new addition to the event this year is the “Three Minute Thesis” competition, in which six graduate students will pitch their thesis research to the audience in three minutes or less. The audience will then vote to determine first, second, and third prizes, and the winning students will receive up to $250 as a scholarship.

The symposium will begin with an opening reception and poster session at 5-7 p.m. March 30 at Purdue Memorial Union. The program is set for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 31 at Stewart Center and will open with a welcoming address from Craig Svensson, dean of the College of Pharmacy.

Presenters will be:

* Peter Vekilov, University of Houston.
* Keith Chadwick, Purdue University.
* Stephan X.M. (Steef) Boerrigter, SSCI, a division of Albany Molecular Research Inc.
* Simon N. Black, AstraZeneca, Mölndal, Sweden.
* Lynne S. Taylor, Purdue University.
* Susan M. Reutzel-Edens, Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis.

The event honors the late Garnet E. Peck, professor emeritus of industrial and physical pharmacy, and his contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences, including the development of latex-based tablet coatings that have been used in the industry for more than 35 years.

The registration fee is $200 for non-Purdue attendees; $150 for Purdue faculty; $100 for Purdue staff, postdocs, or visiting scholars; and $75 for students. The registration deadline is March 23.
