Nominations sought for Jischke Outstanding International Student of the Year
Faculty and staff are invited to nominate a graduating senior for the Martin C. Jischke Outstanding International Student of the Year award.
The Martin C. Jischke Outstanding International Student of the Year Award is presented annually each spring. This award is made possible by President Emeritus Martin C. Jischke, who was the 2007 recipient of the International Citizen of the Year Award given by the International Center of Indianapolis, in recognition of his "tremendous leadership in making global connections for Indiana."
Jischke established this award to honor a Purdue international student who has helped the University welcome and connect people of all cultures. Faculty, departmental staff and academic advisors are invited to nominate students for this award, which recognizes the senior who best fulfill the following requirements:
* Graduating senior who has attained a minimum of a 3.0 graduation index ("Graduating senior" can be interpreted as an undergraduate international student who graduates in December 2015, May 2016, or August 2016).
* Scholarship (minimum 3.0 GPA and academic achievement/recognition in other areas such as research, publications, presentations, etc.).
* Leadership (demonstrated at Purdue through departmental/student organization affiliation or employment).
* Service (welcoming and connecting people of all cultures both on campus and in our community).
* Outstanding character.
"Dr. Jischke wants this honor to be bestowed upon someone who is not only a high academic achiever, but to someone who is culturally sensitive and willing to promote cultural understanding through volunteer service," says David Ayers, associate dean of international programs. "The successful candidate will excel in connecting domestic and international students on and off our campus."
A committee will select the recipient, who will receive a certificate and a $2,000 award from the Jischke Endowment as well as be honored at an awards reception in April. Completed nomination forms and all accompanying letters of support should be sent to Beth Tucker at btucker1@purdue.edu in the Office of International Programs by March 11.
