Coumadin Clinic now available at Center for Healthy Living

The Center for Healthy Living is now offering services in an effort to maximize convenience for patients currently taking anticoagulation medication such as Coumadin (warfarin).

The Coumadin Clinic is managed by Kamal Singh, PharmD, and services are offered 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"When taking a blood thinner such as Coumadin (warfarin) to help prevent clots, it is important to monitor the effect of the medicine on a patient's blood," Singh says. "There can be harmful consequences if their blood is too thin or thick while on this medication. Using the Center for Healthy Living's Coumadin Clinic services will allow patients to get their results instantly and have an adjustment of their medication dosage during one appointment. I'm also happy to help answer any questions they may have regarding their medications."

The first appointment will include a review of the patient's past medical history and current medication, and Singh will provide any needed education based on that information. Follow-up visits with the pharmacist will last up to 30 minutes and will include a finger stick INR test to check the effectiveness of the medication and an evaluation of the patient's medications for drug interactions. Following the appointment, Singh will submit a detailed report of the patient's visit and progress to his or her provider and will collaborate with the provider for any needed medication adjustments and regular therapy management.

All visits with the pharmacist are at no cost to Purdue employees and dependents covered under a Purdue medical plan. To schedule an appointment, call the center at 49-40111 or schedule via the employee portal. For more information on services offered at the center, visit the center online.

The center is open for medical visits 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Lab hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For medical consultation needs after hours or on weekends, contact the Anthem nurse line at 888-279-5449 for assistance.
