Summer in Tippecanoe County is just basking in ways to enjoy activities with family or friends. Concerts, art, some hoops and more -- and the "more" seems to involve good food quite often. And of course, it's almost fair time. Purdue Today's Don't Miss It!  has the facts so you can share the fun.

Weekly, biweekly and ongoing

Farmers markets. It's as easy as 1-2-3 to have locally grown produce and other treats. Three farmers markets serve up good stuff and offer information, conversation and neighborliness. 1) Purdue at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday now (until 3 p.m. starting in August); 2) Lafayette at 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday; and 3) West Lafayette at 4-8 p.m. Wednesdays now (until 7 p.m. starting in September). Lafayette Citizens Band. Concert band music directed by William D. Kisinger. It's a fanfare to summer. 7:30 p.m. Riehle Plaza, Second and Main streets, Lafayette. Thursdays through Aug. 7. The band also will have a Labor Day Concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 1. Details

Papercuts exhibit

'Papercuts' exhibit

Exhibition. "Quest for Equality: Celebrating the Leadership, Advocacy and Commitment of Five Purdue Women." Through July 31. Five deans, thousands of lives touched, 1930s to 1990s -- Dorothy Stratton, Helen Schleman, Beverley Stone, Barbara Cook, and Betty Nelson. Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center, fourth floor, HSSE Library, STEW. The library also has online exhibits. Details

Exhibition. "Papercuts." Through Aug. 9. Purdue University Galleries. This is not the bad kind of paper cut. This kind displays fascinating contemporary works using many kinds of paper and tools, based on ancient Chinese art. Featured at three venues: Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center, Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries in Pao Hall, and Fountain Gallery at 330 Main St., Lafayette. Details

PMU Summer Concert Series. The Union and PSUB have the recipe: good food, good live music, good folks. Stir and enjoy. The series continues on Wednesdays, July 16, 23 and 30. Food service starts at 5 p.m., music usually at 6 p.m., on the Union front lawn (or duck inside if it rains). $ for food. Details

Summer Art & Music Series. Part of Lafayette Parks & Recreation's summertime Art in the Park program. This is every other Wednesday -- so much family fun, it takes two weeks to recover. Featuring local art and music on Memorial Island in Columbian Park, south of South Street (approximately 20th Street to 25th Street) between South, Scott, Main (streets), Park, Wallace (avenues). 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 23, Aug. 6, Aug. 20. JULY 15

Summer Band Concert. Purdue Bands & Orchestras is drawing up a picturesque evening on Slayter Hill: sweet sounds from the stage, blankets, chairs and parasols dotting the hillside, lots of happy listeners and maybe a few kids rolling down the hill. From Sousa and Offenbach to Broadway, Hollywood and Motown hits, it'll be a tuneful time. 7 p.m. Slayter Center on campus.

JULY 18

Gallery Walk. Some satisfying, sophisticated time from head to foot in downtown Lafayette. Some folks like to dine out first, then stroll at their own pace to view artworks, hear music and sample complimentary hors d'oeuvres. Presented by Tippecanoe Arts Federation. 6-9 p.m. Also Sept. 19. Details

JULY 19

Dancing in the Streets. Celebrate summer -- of this year and every year since rock 'n' roll came on the scene. Live music on three stages, food and drink, and the signature classic car and motorcycle cruise. It's too hot not to be in summer. $. 4 p.m.-midnight. Downtown Lafayette. Details

JULY 19-26

Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair. You got your animals, you got your exhibits, you got your kids, you got your rides, you got your elephant ears. It's a winner. Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, 1010 Teal Road, Lafayette. $.

JULY 25, AUG. 29

Final Friday art education and movie. Lafayette Parks & Recreation winds up the fun while winding down the month at a kids' art education outreach followed by a movie on the last Friday of each summer month. Colt World Series. Some of the best age 15-16 baseball teams in the world will converge on Loeb Stadium along Main Street in Columbian Park. A tournament and a longstanding community event. $. Details to be posted as tournament nears and teams qualify.

AUG. 1-17

Indiana State Fair. Purdue Extension exhibits and activities at Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis. (Purdue Day is Aug. 8.) $. Fair details

AUG. 2

Men's basketball alumni game. Noon. Mackey Arena. Hoops history at Purdue comes alive, and what a history! Tickets: lower level (reserved), $10; upper level (general admission), $5; Purdue students, one free ticket (limited total number available). Details

A PEEK AHEAD

AUG. 16

Purdue volleyball intrasquad scrimmage. A fun way to get back in the groove of watching those digs, sets and kills. And this one is free. 2 p.m. Holloway Gymnasium in Purdue's Brees Center.

AUG. 23

Beers Across the Wabash. A samplefest with brews from 30 Indiana breweries. 1-5 p.m. John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge. $. Details to be posted.

Uptown Jazz & Blues Festival. Anything that's hot and cool at the same time is worth a look and a listen. Presented by Greater Lafayette Commerce; proceeds help improve and beautify downtown. $. 5 p.m.-midnight. Fifth and Main streets, Lafayette. Details

Purdue volleyball alumni match. The fun will be soaring as past members of one of the nation's best women's volleyball teams pay a visit.. 6-8 p.m. Holloway Gymnasium in Purdue's Brees Center. Details

Band Camp Finale Concert. The "All-American" Marching Band caps off its annual high-energy week of reconstituting, realigning and rehearsing. 7:30 p.m. Hull Field (practice field along Third Street near the fire station).
