What do you mean there's nothing to do? Here, Purdue Today's Don't Miss It! provides a good starting list of events to attend or participate in this summer in Tippecanoe County. Weekly, biweekly and ongoing
Farmers markets. Incredible edibles and other good things are never more than a few summer days away as three farmers markets serve the campus at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday (until 3 p.m. starting in August), Lafayette at 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, and West Lafayette at 4-8 p.m. Wednesdays (until 7 p.m. starting in September). Lafayette Citizens Band. Concert band music directed by William D. Kisinger. Traditional, rousing and fun to hear. 7:30 p.m. Riehle Plaza, Second and Main streets, Lafayette. Thursdays through Aug. 7 except July 3 -- because of the July 4 Stars and Stripes Concert at 8 p.m. followed by fireworks. The band also will have a Labor Day Concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 1. Details

PMU Summer Concert Series |
Exhibition. "Quest for Equality: Celebrating the Leadership, Advocacy and Commitment of Five Purdue Women." March 19-July 31. Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center, fourth floor, HSSE Library, STEW. Hours during summer: 1-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The library also has online exhibits. Details
PMU Summer Concert Series. The Union and PSUB have the recipe: good food, good live music, good folks. Stir and enjoy. The series runs on Wednesdays, July 9, 16, 23 and 30. Food service starts at 5 p.m., music usually at 6 p.m., on the Union front lawn (or duck inside if it rains). $ for food. Details
Summer Art & Music Series. Part of Lafayette Parks & Recreation's summertime Art in the Park program. Held every other Wednesday, this series features local art and music, food, and family fun on Memorial Island in Columbian Park, south of South Street (approximately 20th Street to 25th Street) between South, Scott, Main (streets), Park, Wallace (avenues). 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, Aug. 6, Aug. 20. Taste of Tippecanoe |
Mosey Down Main Street. A monthly street celebration May-September featuring artists and musicians on three stages. Also street performers and sales of food, beer, wine, crafts. Main Street in Lafayette from Sixth to 11th. Also July 12, Aug. 9 and Aug. 30. Details
JUNE 21
Taste of Tippecanoe. A 33-year tradition of local/area food and music, and a joy to the senses. Also a key fundraiser for the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. More than 30 restaurants plus 20 musical acts on four stages. $. 4 p.m.-midnight. Downtown Lafayette. Details
JUNE 27, JULY 25, AUG. 29
Final Friday art education and movie. Don't worry: there will be more Fridays. But Lafayette Parks & Recreation having a kids' art education outreach followed by a movie on the last Friday of each summer month. Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering. For the 42nd year, a weekend of concerts, workshops, and just plain lovin' that traditional and contemporary folk music. $. Featured concerts at 8 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. Tippecanoe Battlefield in Battle Ground, just north of Lafayette. Details
JULY 4
Stars and Stripes Celebration. Just what the Founding Fathers had in mind, we imagine: patriotic music by the Lafayette Citizens Band and Indiana All-Star Show Choir. 7 p.m. start. Riehle Plaza, Second and Main streets, Lafayette. Fireworks at dusk, around 10 p.m.; visible from plaza and John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge.

Summer Band Concert with Purdue Bands & Orchestras |
Wabash Riverfest. Think outside the bridge. Enjoy a day of varied activities for all ages -- a 5K, canoe race challenges, conservation information, kids' fishing derby, pony rides and a bounce house for the littler ones, lots more; food available. JULY 15
Summer Band Concert. Purdue Bands & Orchestras is drawing up a picturesque evening on Slayter Hill: sweet sounds from the stage, blankets, chairs and parasols dotting the hillside, lots of happy listeners and maybe a few kids rolling down the hill. 7 p.m. Slayter Center on campus.
JULY 18
Gallery Walk. Some satisfying, sophisticated time from head to foot in downtown Lafayette. Some like to dine out first, then stroll at their own pace to view artworks, hear music and sample complimentary hors d'oeuvres. Presented by Tippecanoe Arts Federation. 6-9 p.m. Also Sept. 19. Details
JULY 19
Dancing in the Streets. Celebrate summer -- of this year and every year since rock 'n' roll came on the scene. Live music on three stages, food and drink, and the signature classic car and motorcycle cruise. It's too hot not to be in summer. $. 4 p.m.-midnight. Downtown Lafayette. Details

Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair. You got your animals, you got your exhibits, you got your kids, you got your rides, you got your elephant ears. Hey, this is as American as apple pie. Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, 1010 Teal Road, Lafayette.
AUG. 1-6
Colt World Series. Some of the best age 15-16 baseball teams in the world will converge on Loeb Stadium along Main Street in Columbian Park. A tournament and a longstanding community event. $. Details to be posted as tournament nears and teams qualify.
AUG. 23
Uptown Jazz & Blues Festival. Anything that's hot and cool at the same time is worth a look and a listen. Presented by Greater Lafayette Commerce; proceeds help improve and beautify downtown. $. 5 p.m.-midnight. Fifth and Main streets, Lafayette. Details
Purdue alumni volleyball match. A fun way to get back in the groove of watching those digs, sets and kills. And this one is free. 6-8 p.m. Holloway Gymnasium in Purdue's Brees Center.
