CIE sessions to cover use of teams, offer feedback on presentation style

April 29, 2014

Purdue graduate students with teaching responsibilities can learn more about how to use teamwork in their courses and get feedback on their presentation style during sessions sponsored by the Center for Instructional Excellence on Thursday (May 1).

"Micro-Teaching" is being offered 9-11 a.m. in the Hall for Discovery and Learning Research, Room 228C. Each participant will develop and present a short, seven-minute lesson to a group of peers role-playing as students. Presentations are recorded for individual playback with a CIE staff member at a later date.

"Teaming for Student Success" will be presented from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Hall for Discovery and Learning Research, Room 228C. The presenter is Isaac Tetzloff, a graduate research assistant in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics who makes extensive use of teams. The session will address:

* Various aspects of teaming and using teams.
* Understanding the stages of teaming and how to handle situations that arise in each of the stages.
* Guidelines to help form teams and using peer evaluations.
* Ways to use teams or pairs of students to help teach course material to classmates.

The micro-teaching session and the teaming workshop meet criteria for the Graduate Teacher Certificate.
