Don't Miss It!: New feature touts Purdue events

Entertainment comes in many forms at Purdue -- from Broadway-style shows and  jazz ensembles to athletic events and world-renowned speakers. To make sure you don't miss those big events coming to stage, court or screen, Purdue Today is launching a new events roundup called "Don't Miss It!," which will appear twice each month in Spotlight. Today's installment features action on the basketball court, two takes on "Hamlet," country music, "Honky Tonk" photos, and more.

MARCH 6

Hailing from the musical haven of Vienna, Austria, the Hugo Wolf Quartett revels in the adventurous and refreshing spirit of Austrian composer Hugo Wolf, who was often referred to as "Wild Wolf." 7:30 p.m. Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. Details

MARCH 6-9 and 13-16

It's Big Ten tournament time for Purdue's men's and women's basketball teams:
• The women's tournament will run March 6-9 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Details
• The men's tournament will go March 13-16 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Details

MARCH 7

Tony Wagner, author of "Creating Innovators," will offer an interactive presentation on the need for changes in teaching. The free talk serves as the kickoff event for the Purdue Polytechnic Institute. 11 a.m. Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. Details

TEDxPurdueU, Purdue's independently organized TED conference, will bring 15 speakers and performers from the Purdue community and beyond to speak to the theme of "Daring Greatly." Check-in at 11:30 a.m.; event runs 1-6 p.m. Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. Details

The Distinguished Women Scholars program will honor alumnae who have made significant contributions in their academic and professional communities. A reception will follow. 1 p.m. Purdue Memorial Union's Anniversary Drawing Room. Details

MARCH 10

Purdue University Galleries will open two new exhibits on March 10.
• "Lilliputians March: National Small Works Competition" will feature small-scale, 2-D and 3-D work in various media at Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center.
• "Honky Tonk: Portraits of Country Music by Henry Horenstein" will focus on photographs from bars, ranches and music halls of 1968-2010 at Fountain Gallery in Lafayette. Details

MARCH 13

Country singer Justin Moore will take fans on a unique journey when his "Off the Beaten Path Tour" comes to Purdue. Special guests Randy Houser and Josh Thompson will open the show. 7:30 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. Details  

MARCH 21-23

Current and aspiring theater technical professionals will have the chance to learn from top professionals in the theater industry when the first Midwest Cirque du Soleil Live Entertainment Workshop comes to Purdue. Instructors include the artistic director of "O," Cirque's aquatic romance at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and the dance master for "LOVE," a Beatles show in Las Vegas. Prior registration is required. Purdue's Presidential Lecture Series will feature Anant Agarwal, founder and president of edX. 7 p.m. Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. Details
