Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

Professor Kimberly Kinzig has been appointed the head of the Department of Psychological Sciences, effective March 24. Kinzig began her career in the Department of Psychological Sciences as an assistant professor in 2005, was promoted to full professor in 2021 and served as director of the department’s graduate program from 2020-23.

Wayne Campbell, professor of nutrition science, will be inducted into the 2025 Class of Distinguished Fellows of the American Society of Nutrition on June 1. Induction as a distinguished fellow of ASN is the highest accolade bestowed by the society, honoring individuals for their significant contributions and outstanding lifetime achievements in the field of nutrition. 

Annabelle Atkin, assistant professor of human development and family science, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Early Career Award from the Society for Research in Child Development Asian Caucus. The award recognizes a scholar who is no more than six years post-PhD or equivalent degree and has made important contributions to research on Asian/Asian American families and children.

Valerie Knopik, head of the Department of Human Development and Family Science and the Ben and Maxine Miller Professor of Human Development and Family Studies, has been appointed as a fellow by the Association for Psychological Science. Fellows have made sustained outstanding contributions to the science of psychology in the areas of research, teaching, service and/or application.

Rosie Shrout, assistant professor of human development and family science, has been awarded the Association for Psychological Science’s Rising Star designation. Rising Stars are in the earliest stages of their research careers post-PhD and have already advanced the field with their innovative work.

Heather Eicher-Miller, professor of nutrition science, has been selected to the inaugural class of the Excellence in Nutrition Fellow of the American Society for Nutrition program. The prestigious fellowship recognizes active leaders who have demonstrated sustained membership in ASN and who have made exceptional impacts through their work in nutrition research and/or translation.

Laura Murray-Kolb, professor and head of the Department of Nutrition Science, has been selected to the inaugural class of the Excellence in Nutrition Fellow of the American Society for Nutrition program. The prestigious fellowship recognizes active leaders who have demonstrated sustained membership in ASN and who have made exceptional impacts through their work in nutrition research and/or translation.
