Healthy Boiler workshop to focus on tactics for optimizing blood glucose levels

To learn more about the importance of glucose, Megan Shidler, registered dietitian at the Center for Healthy Living, will present a Healthy Boiler workshop titled “Everyday Tactics For Optimizing Blood Glucose (Even If You Don’t Have Diabetes).” The workshop takes place Nov. 7 from noon to 1 p.m. ET via Teams.

Glucose is the body’s primary source of energy, and keeping those levels in a healthy range is important for everyone, not just for individuals living with prediabetes, Type 1 diabetes or Type 2 diabetes.

The workshop aligns with the physical health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Wellness Program.

The workshop will provide answers to glucose-related questions, such as:

  • How does the body use glucose for energy?
  • What’s the difference between a normal blood glucose response and elevated blood glucose?
  • How do different foods affect blood glucose levels?
  • What is insulin resistance and why does it matter?
  • What simple steps can individuals take to help their body better regulate blood glucose?

Those interested in attending should register by Nov. 6 via the Healthy Boiler Portal. Registration link can be found under the “Healthy Boiler Workshops” section on the portal’s homepage. Hover over the workshop’s square and click on the information “i” to register.

Healthy Boiler workshops and lifestyle programs are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan.
