Update announced for Family and Medical Leave standard, procedures

A shot of the Purdue University campus during the winter season.

Effective Jan. 2, Purdue’s Family and Medical Leave policy (VI.E.1) was superseded by a standard and operating procedures on the same subject.

Eligible spouses who are both working at Purdue and use job-protected leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for birth, adoption, foster placement or bonding will each have 12 weeks of leave under FMLA. They will no longer be required to share the 12 weeks of leave.

The updated procedures clarify how employees request FMLA leave. More information on FMLA is available here.
