Purdue police to offer free verbal de-escalation training in February

The Purdue University Police Department is offering free online verbal de-escalation training in February. 

“Verbal De-escalation” is a two-hour PowerPoint presentation. The objective is to teach skills to help attendees learn to remain calm and react more effectively when confronted with anger to try to reduce the chance of escalation to physical aggression. The presentation includes exercises involving body language and posturing and empathetic verbal language. Verbal de-escalation skills can be helpful both personally and professionally.

Online sessions:

  • Monday, Feb. 19: 1:30-3:30 p.m. ET
  • Wednesday, Feb. 21: 9:30-11:30 a.m. ET

In-person session:

  • Friday, Feb. 23: 9:30-11:30 a.m. ET in Winifred Parker Hall, Conference Room 159

These are all duplicate sessions, so participants should only register for one.

The minimum age for participants is 18. Affiliation with Purdue is not required to register.
