Participant clients needed for nutrition counseling course
Purdue University’s Department of Nutrition Science is seeking volunteers to be part of a graduate course for those studying to be registered dietitians.
The participants will serve as clients for students in NUTR 51100 (Applied Nutrition Counseling), a course that is part of students’ supervised practice hours with a registered dietitian.
Participants will first receive a nutrition assessment, followed by individualized guidance in line with their goals, needs and desires. Any aspect of food, eating, cooking and nutrition can be addressed. Clients with chronic conditions like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. are welcome.
Each volunteer must be at least 35 years old and must complete a screening form first to assure that the client’s needs can be met.
Client volunteers can expect a holistic approach, one that considers the whole person, not just their lab values, weight and a cookie-cutter diet plan.
Students and clients will meet on the same day and time every week (or every other week) from the week of Feb 5. through the week of May 10. The nutrition assessment will last for one hour at Lyles-Porter Hall. All other meetings will be 30-45 minutes.
There is no cost to the client.
For further details and to receive the required screening form, email Jennifer Clark and Rachel A. Clark.
Ten people will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. A waiting list will be created for the next spring semester.
