Healthy Boiler workshop focuses on cultivating kindness to boost health; register by Feb. 22

Gateway to the Future arch at Purdue University.

An upcoming Healthy Boiler workshop will focus on how kindness can boost health. The workshop, “Cultivate Kindness to Boost Health,” will be presented virtually by Felicia Warfield, health coach at Purdue Northwest, from 1-2 p.m. ET on Feb. 23. The workshop supports the behavioral health and physical health pillars of the Healthy Boiler Program.

Individuals who are looking for quick ways to boost mood and improve their physical well-being are encouraged to attend.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, kindness can increase happiness and self-esteem while decreasing stress and emotional reactivity.

“Try random acts of kindness daily and experience instant mood lift, increased energy and stress reduction,” Warfield said. “Done consistently over time, these acts produce benefits that  foster positive self-image, reduce risk for chronic illness and disease, lower blood pressure and increase your lifespan.”

The workshop will explore the science behind what might be the missing ingredient in an individual’s health journey. It will also include discussions on honoring one’s authentic self, explore the differences between “being nice” and genuine kindness, and offer practical strategies to get participants started.

Those interested should register by Feb. 22 via the Healthy Boiler Portal. The registration link can be found under the “Healthy Boiler Workshops” section on the portal’s homepage. Hover over the “Cultivate Kindness to Boost Health” square and click on “Submit” to register.

The Healthy Boiler workshops and lifestyle program are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan.
