Coming Wednesday: Open house to showcase Birck Nanotechnology Center’s new vision

The Birck Nanotechnology Center, Purdue’s flagship home for advanced research and development at the atomic scale, will host an open house for the Purdue research community from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 31).

The two-hour event will feature talks by leadership from the Office of Research, university and Birck, and will include tours of the center’s facilities. A virtual option is available for the talks. All attendees must register in advance of the event.

Organized by the Purdue Office of Research, the open house will focus on upgrades to the facility and plans for the future, which reflect Purdue’s commitment to providing its students and faculty with state-of-the-art research infrastructure. Birck fosters collaborative research and innovation by serving six colleges and numerous schools and departments across the university.

Topics covered during the information session:

  • U.S. Chips and Science Act — quantum initiatives and potential translational research opportunities.
  • Facility renovations currently underway.
  • A vision for engaging with semiconductor companies and startups under CHIPS Act R&D programs while supporting broader, more fundamental research.

Speakers include: 

  • Karen Plaut, executive vice president for research. 
  • Dan DeLaurentis, vice president, Discovery Park District at Purdue institutes.
  • Mark Lundstrom, Purdue chief semiconductor officer.
  • Zhihong Chen, Birck Nanotechnology Center director.
