Information regarding graduate student stipend implementation

Provost Patrick Wolfe and Treasurer Chris Ruhl recently announced several investments targeted to increasing graduate student stipends. Implementation plans are in development, but several high-level details have been finalized and are provided below. The effective dates and new minimums should be referenced when developing offer letters or other communications to new and returning graduate assistants.  

• Any new fiscal year (FY) appointment that begins on July 1 will be set up at the new rate.
• Any new academic year (AY) appointment that begins on August 14 will be set up at the new rate.
• We will not be making any changes to current FY appointments that terminate at the end of summer.
• These dates also apply to current graduate students and should be implemented with their July 1 (FY) or August 14 (AY) renewal.
• These dates also apply to graduate students with other renewal dates. For example, if a student on an FY appointment was scheduled to renew September 1, the increase should be implemented July 1, and this would not impact their renewal date. 

The new minimum graduate assistant stipend rates are $26,000 for FY appointments and $20,348 for AY appointments.
