Oak tree removal near Purdue Mall Fountain scheduled for Friday

A large oak tree located on the northwest side of the Class of 1939 Water Sculpture, also known as the Purdue Mall Fountain, has been showing signs of disease and decline since 2020. A tree care plan was crafted and followed. Even after treatment, the tree continues to decline and will be removed Friday (Aug. 5).

After the removal and treatment of the surrounding soil, a large caliper oak tree will be planted.

During this work, sidewalk closures will be in place. Pedestrians and bicyclists are asked to use caution in the area, obey all posted signs and seek alternate routes.

Questions may be directed to the Grounds department at 765-494-3087.
