Registration open for 17th annual Garnet E. Peck Symposium

The 17th Annual Garnet E. Peck Symposium will be held April 7 by the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy with corporate support from Aprecia, Catalent Biologics and MED Institute. The symposium will be held on the second floor of Stewart Center.

Chaired by IPPH assistant professor Sandro Matosevic, the symposium will be themed “New Therapeutic Frontiers: Immunotherapies from Genes to Cells.” The program will feature presentations by renowned pharmaceutical industrial representatives and researchers as well as a poster session by graduate students.

“Immunotherapies have revolutionized medicine, and we are very excited that this year’s Peck Symposium will bring together, on the Purdue campus for the first time, a group of leaders in the field to showcase some truly exciting, cutting-edge science," Matosevic says. "These are all speakers who are pushing the field of immunotherapy forward and we are excited to be hosting them at Purdue as part of the Peck Symposium."

This year’s event also will include the “Three Minute Thesis” competition, in which graduate students will pitch their thesis research to the audience in three minutes or less. Voting will then take place to determine first, second and third prize awards of up to $250 in scholarships.

Presenters are:

* Wayne Hancock, University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, “Overcoming Treg Suppression to Promote Anti-Tumor Immunity.”

* Pawel Kalinski, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, “Sensitizing Cold Tumors for the Therapeutic Efficacy of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors.”

* Sandro Matosevic, Purdue University, “Reprogramming of Natural Killer Cells as Immunotherapies for Solid Tumors.”

* Fabiana Perna, Indiana University, talk title TBA.

* Lily Yang, University of California, Los Angeles, “Allogeneic HSC-engineered iNKT Cells for Off-the-Shelf Cancer Immunotherapy.”

* Cassian Yee, University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, talk title TBA.

* Yoon Yeo, Purdue University, “Drug Delivery for Cancer Immunotherapy and Infectious Disease Treatment.”

The event is free for individuals with @purdue.edu email addresses and $350 for all other attendees. Registration is required and will close on March 31 or when conference has reached capacity.

The event honors the late Garnet E. Peck, who was a professor of industrial and physical pharmacy, and his contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences, including the development of latex-based tablet coatings that have been used in the industry for more than 35 years.
