Talent Sharing Program seeking COVID-19 space safety reviewers

Research space safety reviewers are needed to support the University’s Protect Purdue Plan through the Talent Sharing Program.

These safety reviewers will support the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnership by monitoring research spaces throughout the West Lafayette campus to ensure ongoing compliance of established safety protocols. These individuals will work closely with Purdue researchers, staff and students to help educate them on the ongoing safety protocols implemented throughout campus designed to mitigate the exposure of COVID-19.

Some of the needed skills for this position include a basic knowledge of laboratory operations and/or occupational safety experience or relevant background and the ability and willingness to coach and educate faculty, staff and students on compliance of established COVID-19 safety protocols. Laboratory operations experience and awareness are preferred.

Additional details are available on the Talent Sharing Program website.

Training will begin immediately for qualified candidates and will be provided by members of the Research Space Monitoring Team, which piloted this program beginning in June. Reviewers will monitor public spaces that house research laboratories and research spaces with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, compliance monitoring of research laboratory SOPs, safe distancing protocols, use of face coverings, appropriate signage/markings, and sanitation stations.

"I am proud to have worked with the Research Safety Monitoring Team to find innovative ways to protect the Purdue community and Purdue's research enterprise during these unprecedented times,” says Cinthia Sanchez, managing director, Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience. “I have enjoyed interacting with faculty, students and staff members using my expertise in infectious diseases to facilitate the process of safely returning to research operations."

Reviewers will work 10-20 hours per week during normal working hours and will be required to use personal protective equipment while working.

These positions are expected to last throughout the fall semester with an estimated end date of Dec. 15.

Employees who are interested or supervisors who have employees with capacity can find more information at the Talent Sharing Program website, and supervisors can submit employees via the Talent Share Match survey.
