New digital repository serves as one-stop portal for online teaching and learning resources
Purdue has launched the new Purdue Repository for online Teaching and Learning (PoRTAL) digital repository to serve as the go-to resource for anyone interested in online teaching and learning.
PoRTAL can help improve knowledge and skills in developing online courses, whether for individuals in the initial stages of moving courses to an online format or for those already teaching online and looking for ways to engage students further. Serving as a "one-stop shop," PoRTAL contains documents on wide-ranging topics including instructor strategies, course enhancement, pedagogy, active learning, sample tools and policies. Each document contains an overview of the topic, an outline of evidence-based best practices (as applicable), and tips and tricks for implementing the ideas.
The resource topics are based on a needs assessment from faculty and graduate students; each resource has been through an extensive external and peer review process. PoRTAL is an ongoing initiative and will continue to grow with additional content and resources posted as available.
The development of PoRTAL involved partners from across Purdue in order to bring together specialists and their knowledge of online teaching and learning into a single location. Units involved are Teaching and Learning Technologies, Center for Instructional Excellence, Purdue Online Learning, Purdue University Libraries, and the academic program Learning Design and Technology in the College of Education.
