HTM Community Market Showcase to display, sell unique products Friday

Students in HTM 331, a Hospitality Sales and Service class, have partnered with locally owned small businesses to produce, market, and sell unique products produced in Indiana. Students will be showing and selling these creations during the HTM Community Market Showcase on March 1.

The showcase will take place at 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Marriot Hall Atrium. This event is open to the public and will allow the community to see the results of the students’ hard work, visit with local businesses and see Purdue’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management in action. This event will feature a wide array of products, including food, a restaurant tasting event, gift wrap, cups, custom Purdue chocolates and candy. All of these products have been designed and created by a joint effort between the 30 students in HTM 331 and the five local vendors who partnered with the students: East End Grill, McCord Candies, Richelle in a HandBasket, Indiana Ribbon and Neon Cactus.

In honor of Purdue’s sesquicentennial celebration, 150 Years of Giant Leaps, HTM decided to adjust the structure of HTM 331 by focusing on students’ relationships with the local community by supporting businesses. Through their partnerships with local businesses, students have had the opportunity to learn about the sales and marketing process, while taking advantage of the mentoring that local businesses leaders offer. In turn, local businesses get the chance to interact with students, share their stories, and showcase their talents through a new avenue.
