Butler Center Roundtable on hiring and retaining set for Nov. 28
The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence will continue its Butler Center Roundtables series with a discussion on hiring and retaining on Nov. 28.
The Butler Center launched the Butler Center Roundtables series to facilitate discussion on diversity and inclusion in higher education on campus. Each discussion will revolve around research articles on topics such as faculty careers, challenges faced by faculty of color, graduate education, and issues about inclusion or other similar topics. Articles for each roundtable will be provided before the roundtable through the Butler Center's email list, or participants may email butlercenter@purdue.edu to request the links to the articles.
The goal of the series is disseminate academic research that can enable faculty and department leaders to develop strategies and institutional initiatives that can support the success of faculty, staff and students and contribute to the leadership pipeline, says Mangala Subramaniam, director of the Butler Center.
The roundtable on hiring and retaining is scheduled for noon-1:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at Purdue Memorial Union's West Faculty Lounge. Lunch will be provided.
The lead discussants for the discussion are Beth Holloway, assistant dean of diversity and engagement in the College of Engineering, the Leah H. Jamieson Director of Women in Engineering and assistant professor of mechanical engineering (by courtesy), and Tahira Reid, associate professor of mechanical engineering. The secondary commentators are Ellen Gruenbaum, professor of anthropology; Chris Sahley, director of the Center for Faculty Success and professor of biological sciences; and Regena Scott, assistant professor of practice in Purdue Polytechnic Institute. After their remarks, the roundtable will open for discussion by all attending.
Registration for the roundtable discussion must be completed online. For more information, contact butlercenter@purdue.edu.
