Showcase to highlight writing, research, teaching

The Introductory Composition Program at Purdue (ICaP) and the Professional Writing Program will present a showcase of student and instructor displays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday (April 13) in Stewart Center, rooms 302-306.

The 2017 Purdue Writing Showcase will feature some of the most innovative print and digital media projects from students in first-year composition and professional writing courses as well as displays of innovative teaching practices from writing instructors. The Purdue Writing Showcase allows participants to:

* Professionalize work that they’ve completed during the year and share it with an audience.

* Demonstrate their research and creativity.

* Discover opportunities in the English department that can expand their skills.

* Network with other students and instructors.

* Practice skills necessary to find other venues in which to share work.

* Offer insight into the work the English department brings to life.

Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to students from a variety of majors about their projects. Students will present their work in a presentation poster display or on a laptop.

“Participating in the ICaP showcase is one of my favorite Purdue memories and it was an experience that challenged me to step out of my comfort zone,” says Antonia Roach, a former ENGL 106 First-Year Composition student who participated in a previous showcase. “While at the showcase, I shared my project with different people in Purdue’s community and one of those people happened to work in the writing lab on campus. She reached out to me and asked me if I was interested in becoming a writing lab tutor and I am currently in the training course. Had I not had the opportunity to participate in the ICaP showcase, I likely would have missed this great opportunity to work in the writing lab. The showcase gave me a chance to practice my presentation and design skills as well as network with new people.”

Cash prizes are awarded to the winning posters in 10 categories.

The event is free and open to the public. More information can be found here
