Reminder: How Purdue determines operational status in cases of inclement weather

February 5, 2014

When severe winter weather is forecast, decisions on operations at Purdue's West Lafayette campus are made in accordance with standard procedures based on input from University and county public safety entities.

In these situations, the Office of Environmental Heath and Public Safety evaluates whether conditions are improving or deteriorating in consultation with Tippecanoe emergency management officials. Carol Shelby, senior director for EHPS, advises Provost Tim Sands and Treasurer Al Diaz of the current and expected conditions. Sands and Diaz make an initial determination on operational status and check their conclusions with President Mitch Daniels.

Faculty, staff and students should consult local television and radio, the Purdue home page, and email for decisions on operational status. More information also is available on the campus safety webpage.
