INDIANAPOLIS — Leaders from Purdue University, Elanco Animal Health Inc., the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana gathered Tuesday (Oct. 6) to formally break ground on the new One Health Research Institute near downtown.
As part of the ongoing construction of the One Health Innovation District, the research institute will serve as a hub for research, partnership and innovation, anchored by Purdue and Elanco.
The planned 150,000-square-foot facility will include advanced research laboratories, shared research infrastructure and equipment, incubator and collaboration space, and facilities supporting animal health and veterinary partners. Purdue will serve as the research institute’s academic and research anchor, connecting faculty, students and researchers with industry and entrepreneurial partners. Elanco will serve as the industry and innovation anchor, bringing its considerable animal health expertise and scientific talent to the table while creating a direct connection to the development and commercialization of new One Health solutions.
“The One Health Innovation District fits squarely into both Purdue’s historic land-grant mission and our present-day position as the state’s flagship research and technology university,” said Mitch Daniels, interim president of Purdue University. “And it represents the next big step in expanding Purdue’s presence in Indianapolis and contributing to Indiana’s economic vitality.”
