Purdue expands graduate credit pathway for Naval School of Aviation Safety students
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University is offering an expanded graduate credit pathway for aviation professionals who have completed the Naval School of Aviation Safety’s (SAS) Aviation Safety Officer Course. This new pathway reflects Purdue’s continued commitment to offering accessible, mission-aligned avenues for service members to advance their education and careers.
This new pathway allows graduates of the Aviation Safety Officer Course to transfer up to six graduate credit hours into Purdue’s online Master of Science in Aviation and Aerospace Management or up to three credit hours into the online Graduate Certificate in aviation safety management. Offered online by Purdue Polytechnic Institute, these programs provide flexibility and convenience for officers serving in the U.S. Navy.
“Purdue is proud to recognize the exceptional training provided by the Naval School of Aviation Safety,” said Dimitrios Peroulis, senior vice president for partnerships and online at Purdue. “This intentional articulation of military learning into academic credit ensures we not only honor the expertise of our service members, but that we are accelerating their paths to leadership in aviation safety and management.”
This initiative is part of Purdue’s broader strategy to align its academic strengths with critical missions in the realm of National security. Purdue’s aviation and aerospace programs are led by faculty with extensive experience in military, government and commercial aviation, and they teach in-demand skills in safety systems, risk management and operational leadership that can be immediately applied in the workforce.
“This innovative partnership with Purdue University provides our graduates with a powerful opportunity to continue their professional development,” said Capt. Daniel Testa, commanding officer of the SAS. “The ability to earn graduate credit for their training helps our officers build on their expertise and contribute even more effectively to aviation safety across the fleet.”
Any student who has completed the Aviation Safety Officer Course within the last five years is eligible to take advantage of this pathway. Transferring credits from SAS’ course to a Purdue aviation graduate program can help service members save time to degree completion and maximize the value of their service-based education.
