Campus voting information session now available online
The Tippecanoe County Board of Elections and Purdue University are working together to ensure students, faculty and staff are aware of the county and state voting resources for the upcoming primary and general elections.
Steven Schultz, Purdue’s senior vice president and general counsel, and Mike Smith, a staff member for the Tippecanoe County Board of Elections, gave brief presentations and answered questions about updates to local and state registration and voting during a recent town hall meeting at Purdue’s West Lafayette location.
Also on hand at the event were Julie Roush, Tippecanoe County clerk; Fred Duttlinger, Purdue’s director of civics literacy and election liaison; and Gina DelSanto, Purdue special advisor.
A recording of the hourlong event is available for viewing here. Streamlined information directing the campus community to Tippecanoe County and Indiana state voting and registration resources can be found here. Additional information is available at the university’s Civics Literacy website.
A campus voter registration drive is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25. Additional details are still being worked out, Duttlinger said.
Under Indiana law, Purdue students have the option to register to vote in Tippecanoe County or vote with an absentee ballot in their home county and state. The deadline for voter registration in Indiana is April 6.
In-person early voting for the May 5 primary begins April 7 on the first floor of the Tippecanoe County Office Building during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
