STORYLINE

President Biden recently gave an update on the status of the country’s fight against COVID-19. Adams says that the United States was caught off guard two years ago due to a lack of international cooperation and the CDC not being able to adequately track and test for COVID-19. Much of the response to the coronavirus pandemic has been reactive instead of proactive. Since that time, work has been done to strengthen global communication about the virus and to enhance internal data collection. Adams says that clear real-time data is necessary in order to see trends before they become problems. He says that the science advancements achieved over the last two years have been amazing, but the communication surrounding them has been horrible. Adams says that academic experts, private industry and the media need to make sure the public is being accurately informed about the ongoing situation. If that happens, he thinks the country will be able to successfully live with COVID and be better prepared for the next pandemic.
