Critical Data Studies Collective to host spring virtual reading discussion group

The Critical Data Studies (CDS) Collective is holding a spring virtual reading discussion group on critical data studies. At each session, participants will think about what CDS can teach for dismantling structures of oppression and imagining ways to think, organize and create for a more just world.

Reading group sessions will be hosted virtually over Zoom with closed-captioning enabled, and participants are welcome to come to one, several or all four sessions. The sessions, which are open to faculty, staff, students and community members, will be held 1-2 p.m. ET on the following dates:

  • Feb. 16 (W) -- Abolishing: Abolition University and Feminist Refusal
  • March 3 (Th) -- Doing: Anticolonial Science
  • March 30 (W) -- Organizing: Digital Labor and Global Solidarity
  • April 21 (Th) -- Reimagining: Resistance in Action

The list of readings for each of the dates is available online. The webpage also provides the Zoom information for joining the reading discussion group and how to sign up for the CDS listserv to receive reminders, updates and information about future CDS events.

The CDS Collective intends for the sessions to support collaborative dialogue. Participants are expected to engage together by foregrounding respectful communication and avoiding violent or hateful speech. Those who do not uphold these engagement intentions during the event will be removed from the discussion.
