About the NAECC

The Native American Educational and Cultural Center (NAECC) is committed to creating and promoting positive relationships with and among Purdue University students, staff, and Native American communities. The NAECC facility provides academic support and serves as "a second home" for Purdue students. NAECC staff engage in direct student advocacy and liaise with various academic departments to promote higher education access and inclusion of Indigenous knowledge.

NAECC Mission Statement

The Native American Educational and Cultural Center (NAECC) at Purdue University serves as a resource to Native American, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian students, faculty, staff and individuals from the campus and greater Lafayette community for the purpose of understanding, appreciating, and celebrating Indigenous cultures.

NAECC Goals

The NAECC supports Purdue University's vision of inclusion and excellence and is committed to meeting goals of the "New Synergies" Strategic Plan through the following:

  • Launching Tomorrow's Leaders: by producing new generations of educated Native Americans, Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians who will make positive contributions in their tribal communities.
  • Discovery with Delivery: by creating and supporting research and scholarship opportunities that involve Native American communities on tribal lands.
  • Meeting Global Challenges: by educating non-Natives who will understand and appreciate Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions.

The NAECC is part of the Division of Diversity and Inclusion under the leadership of Dr. G. Christine Taylor, Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion in the Office of the Provost.
