F-1: Immigration Services

Immigration counseling is the most important service ISS offers to the non-immigrant population and the Purdue community.  ISS is the university's expert resource in the areas of F-1, J-1, H-1B, TN, O and PR regulations.  ISS acts as the University liaison with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of State (DOS), the Department of Labor (DOL), and the Indianapolis Workforce Development Alien Certification Unit.

More than 10,000 international students, faculty and staff are on our campus in any calendar year.   Accurate and thorough understanding of immigration regulations is essential to meet the needs of this community.  ISS strives to ensure our non-immigrant constituency maintains legal/lawful status while at Purdue.  The efforts of ISS staff are rewarded by the international students, researchers, faculty and staff qualifying for the maximum number of benefits from CIS and DOS.

Immigration-related services include the following areas:

  • International undergrad, graduate, & professional students' documents
  • Transfer between Purdue and other U.S. academic institutions
  • Employment applications
  • Reinstatement applications
  • Travel endorsements
  • Applications to change non-immigrant status
  • Applications to obtain, amend, or extend status
  • Employment-based Permanent Residence applications
  • Additional immigration advising as needed.
