There’s still time to earn Healthy Boiler incentive for 2022 – Deadline is December 31

As a reminder, benefits-eligible employees and spouses covered on a Purdue health plan still have time to earn incentives for the 2022 Healthy Boiler Incentive Program. The deadline to have annual physicals (and biometrics if desired) completed and submitted via the Healthy Boiler Portal is December 31.

In 2022, incentive funds can be earned through a variety of steps:

  • Step 1 (completing your annual physical) must be completed before payment for other objectives will be paid; however, you may complete the steps in whatever order works best for you. Employees also have the option of completing additional steps to increase the incentive payment.
  • Step 2 (optional)
  • Complete biometrics screening
  • Complete Health Risk Assessment
  • Complete Dental or Vision exam
  • Complete one Well-Being Screening – variety are available based on age

Physicals can be performed at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, the Campus Health Clinic on Purdue Fort Wayne’s campus and the new CHL at Purdue Northwest. Additionally, community providers can perform annual physicals. As a reminder, if a benefits-eligible employee or dependent covered on a Purdue health plan need to establish with a primary care provider (physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant), they can do so at either CHL location or the Campus Health Clinic.

Note: Physicals/biometrics screenings completed in 2022 count toward the 2022 Healthy Boiler Incentive Program and do not carry over for the 2023 program incentives.

Incentive payout

Payout amounts are as followed:

  • Employee only coverage can earn up to $450 in incentive dollars by completing both steps
  • Employee + Spouse coverage can earn up to $900 in incentive dollars if both employee and spouse complete both steps
  • Employee + Family coverage can earn up to $900 in incentive dollars if both employee and spouse complete both steps
  • Employee + Children coverage can earn up to $900 if employee completes both steps

For those who complete the requirements in November, a payout will be made in December.

For those who complete the requirements in December, a payout will be made the following January and the HSA/HRA process is outlined below.

For HSAs, contributions will apply to the same tax year in which they are paid, meaning the payout in January will apply to the new tax year's contribution limits set by the IRS. The exception to this is if an employee completes the program requirements in December but terminates before the new tax year – their contribution would post in January but would be applied to the prior tax year.

For HRAs, the account will open as of January 1 of the new plan year. The exception to this is if an employee terminates before the new plan year – their HRA would open as of January 1 (or their eligibility date) of the prior plan year, would close as of their date of termination and they’d have 90 days from the closure to file claims for reimbursement.

A report in aggregate is provided to Human Resources indicating how much each person should receive based on completed items. Human Resources does not receive any personal health information related to your incentive completion.

Details are available on the Earn Incentives web page.
