Aspire Indiana to offer free Psychological First Aid training to help navigate impact of COVID-19

In an effort to help individuals cope with the expected long-term effects of COVID-19 on individuals’ mental health and wellness, Aspire Indiana is offering free Psychological First Aid (PFA) training through June 25.

PFA is an evidence-informed modular approach to help children, adolescents, adults and families in the immediate aftermath of disaster and terrorism. PFA is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and foster short-term and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.

  • New provider joins team CHL – Welcome, Dr. Esteban Ramirez

    Esteban Ramirez, DO, MBA, FACP, joined the team at the CHL this month, and will be on hand to provider care for patients on a part-time basis. The addition of Dr. Ramirez brings the number of primary care providers at the CHL to five. He joins Dr. William Adair, NP Nisha Bogosian, NP Kimberly Porter and Dr. Ronald Shelton – all of whom you can establish with as your primary care provider if you’d like.

    Dr. Ramirez is happy to join the CHL and have the opportunity to give back to the Purdue community. He believes in compassionately providing evidence-based care to his patients.

  • CHL continues to offer guidance, risk-assessment to those possibly exposed to COVID-19

    As a reminder, the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) staff on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus is providing guidance to symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals who believe they have been exposed to COVID-19. CHL staff will screen them, guide them on next steps and provide any documentation they may need for work. For process details, and how to request assistance, please see the Purdue Today article.

    Additionally, CHL staff are helping with temperature checks for employees beginning their shifts on campus.  
  • CHL returns to in-person appointments via a phased approach

    The first phase began on Monday (May 18) as the CHL reopened its doors for healthy-patient visits to those who pass both a pre-appointment health screening via phone and in-person (to prevent any illnesses and fever from being brought into the center). The following services are be available:
    • Annual physicals/well visits.
    • Pharmacy – medication management and/or medication refills.
    • Chronic condition management – diabetes, asthma, etc.
    • Health coaching – including tobacco cessation, weight management, etc.
    • Employee assistance counseling.
    • Dietitian appointments.

Fidelity continues to assist employees, offer virtual workshops, advise on market volatility 

The Fidelity Investor Center – located in the Purdue Memorial Union (PMU) – is closed and on-site Fidelity Help Desk sessions scheduled on the West Lafayette campus have been put on hold for the time being. However, Fidelity representatives are still available to meet virtually. Employees may continue to call 800-642-7131 or schedule an appointment online.  Fidelity representatives have been contacting those with in-person appointments already scheduled to change to virtual or reschedule for a later date.

Fidelity will continue to offer virtual on-demand and live web workshops. To access and sign up for the available workshops, log into your Fidelity account, click on “Library” at the top of the page, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Workshops.”

Additionally, in an effort to keep retirement plan participants up to date on current market conditions, Fidelity is also sharing their Market Volatility Viewpoints landing zone, which offers a variety of resources to help individuals navigate the ever-changing market and offers new content daily.

Healthy Boiler workshops offered virtually

At this time, all Healthy Boiler workshops are being held virtually.

Healthy Boiler workshops are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan. Registration for all workshops can be done via the Healthy Boiler portal . Registration link can be found under the “Engage” tab, “Wellness Events” on the portal’s home page. All registrations are due by the day before the event’s start date. Additionally, the virtual on-demand and live web workshops offered by Fidelity – along with the various virtual exercise programs offered by Purdue – can be accessed via the Healthy Boiler Workshops’ web page.

Healthy Boiler joins Boilermaker Half-Marathon, 5K

As of now, plans are in the works for the annual Boilermaker Half-Marathon and 5K to take place on campus on October 17. Human Resources is once again offering discounted registration fees for both the 5K and the Half-Marathon. The registration link and discount codes will be shared soon. Additionally, the Healthy Boiler Program is a 2020 event sponsor to encourage participation and remind employees that the Boilermaker Half-Marathon and 5K support multiple pillars of the program – physical health, behavioral health and social wellness.

With the ongoing presence of COVID-19 and planning for the students to return for in-person fall classes, event decisions are being made in conjunction with those plans.  As more details become available, we will share information via Purdue Today, email and online.
