Drugs in this category are typically high-cost medications that require special handling, administration or monitoring. These medications require prior authorization and must be ordered through the specialty pharmacy. Purdue partners with Archimedes to administer specialty medications. The specialty pharmacy that will actually be providing the medications to you is called AcariaHealth. Your medication will be sent to you by home delivery with 24/7 access to pharmacists and nurses. Oftentimes, there are copay assistance programs* that are available from drug manufacturers to help cover the cost of these medications, and Archimedes will help find these and other ways to ensure you get the medications you need at the lowest costs possible.

Prescription drug coverage of weight loss medications by a Purdue medical plan is contingent upon enrollment and active participation in the Center for Healthy Living’s (CHL) Weight Management Program. Through this coordinated effort, individuals utilizing weight loss medication also receive behavioral health support, nutritional counseling and physical activity guidance. This collaborative approach not only enhances the effectiveness of the medication but also supports long-term lifestyle changes. This requirement emphasizes the belief that sustainable weight management is best achieved through a combination of lifestyle changes — such as diet, exercise and education — alongside medical support. By linking program participation to medication coverage, healthcare providers aim to ensure that patients are actively engaged in their overall health journey, increasing the likelihood of long-term success. This relationship between structured program enrollment and access to prescriptions helps foster accountability, supports healthier outcomes and aligns with evidence-based strategies for treating obesity and related conditions.
Benefits of combing weight loss medications, including GLP-1s, with a structured weight loss program include:
- Enhanced outcomes
- Identification of root causes
- Improved patient management
Exemptions from this requirement can be requested through the Center for Healthy Living (CHL), Contact the CHL at 765-494-0111 to learn more.
