“Working together to protect trees for our future”
The Morton Arboretum is a 1700+ acre tree lab situated in the dense suburbs of Chicago. Through plant exploration, acquisition, and cultivation, the Arboretum maintains a diverse collection of plants from around the world organized both taxonomically and geographically. These collections include both cultivated and wild provenance specimens with the intention of serving as a germplasm repository and research and development resource in conjunction with the Haerther New Plant Development Program, Center for Tree Science, and Global Tree Conservation. Kim Shearer works with researchers, breeders, conservationists and the nursery industry to develop and support research, development, and conservation goals that meet the needs of a broad range of stakeholders. In this presentation, Kim will provide a peek into plant exploration, breeding, and conservation initiatives at The Morton Arboretum and discuss how the Arboretum mission has evolved over a 100 years.
