The bridge is a riveted deck plate girder (RDPG) span original on the Norfolk and Wester Railway (N&WRR) subsequently acquired by Norfolk Southern Railroad. As was often the case, the bridge was moved from its original location circa 1969 and used on the Wabash railroad until it was removed from service at an unknown date. The bridge was in storage at the Lafayette yard of NS and rather than be scrapped, the bridge was donated to S-BRITE for research, training and educational use. The bridge has various interesting features, including bearing modifications, impact damage, and corrosion damage.
