The Retrofit Beams are integral components to one of S-BRITE’s our training course, Effective Retrofits for Select Steel Bridge Details, where participants gain hands-on experience with common steel bridge retrofitting techniques. These fabricated bridge specimens allow participants to apply practical skills and gain familiarity with the tools and methods necessary for successful retrofits. The course covers essential tasks such as stop hole drilling, surface treatment, and retrofit techniques for out-of-plane distortion cracking and constrained-induced fracture (CIF), providing an in-depth look at repair and retrofit methods that extend the service life of steel bridges.

Throughout the two-day course, participants engage in a series of exercises designed to mimic real-world conditions, from drilling and cleaning crack arrest holes and performing bolt tightening procedures. Emphasis is placed on ensuring proper technique and understanding the importance of stress flow in bridge components. These training activities are supported by expert instruction and real-world examples, helping participants develop the skills to identify, plan, and implement effective retrofits for aging steel infrastructure. By the end of the course, participants are equipped with the knowledge and experience to perform retrofits that ensure structural integrity and longevity for steel bridges.
