Beacons and Desktop Alerts

Beacons and desktop popup alerts are part of the PurdueALERT emergency warning notification system on the West Lafayette campus. They will be activated when a safety threat is present. More information is available below for when the system is activated.

The ALERT beacon will:

• Alarm for 10 seconds (cannot be muted)
• Flash for five minutes
• Provide incident information that will remain available for five minutes before it resets

The desktop popup alert will:

• Take over a computer that is logged into a Purdue account and display an alert message
• Clicking the "Enter" key will acknowledge the alert and allow the user to return to the normal screen
