Dr. Jerome Adams

Presidential Fellow, Executive Director of Health Equity Initiatives
Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering

Dr. Jerome Adams joined RCHE in October 2021 as Core Faculty. His home department is Pharmacy Practice and Public Health. Prior to becoming the 20th U.S. surgeon general, Adams served as Indiana state health commissioner from 2014 through 2017. Dr. Adams also has served as an associate professor of anesthesia at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis. Adams received his Master of Public Health with a focus on chronic disease prevention from the University of California, Berkeley, and his medical doctorate from Indiana University School of Medicine. His postgraduate internship was at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis and he completed his anesthesiology residency at the Indiana University Department of Anesthesia in 2006.

Douglas Brubaker

Douglas Brubaker

Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering
Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering

Doug Brubaker joined RCHE in August 2020. His lab develops computational approaches to facilitate modeling of diverse clinical and molecular data modalities from patients and experimental systems to develop new therapeutic approaches for complex diseases. His lab aims to bridge the domains of molecular and population level bioengineering to improve human health. He received his bachelors in mathematics and Ph.D. in Systems Biology and Bioinformatics from Case Western Reserve University before undertaking postdoctoral studies in the Department of Biological Engineering at MIT.

Zachary Hass, PhD

Zachary Hass, PhD

Assistant Professor, Nursing and Industrial Engineering
Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering

Dr. Hass is a joint appointment between the Schools of Nursing and Industrial Engineering with academic training as a statistician in health services research. The focus of his research is on evaluating policies and programs that impact the healthcare system with a particular focus on promoting quality of care for vulnerable populations such as older adults, Medicaid participants, and rural populations.

Juan Wachs, PhD

Juan Wachs, PhD

Professor, Industrial Engineering
Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering

Juan Wachs focuses his research in the nexus between robotics, interaction and data science, specifically as applied to healthcare, which is in line with the foci of Human Systems and Healthcare Systems. Throughout his work at Purdue, his lab focuses in the field of human-machine interaction, specifically in the medical field. Key areas of research in the ISAT lab involves the study of surgical robotics, hand gesture interfaces and assistive technologies.

Xiaoqian Joy Wang, PhD

Xiaoqian Joy Wang, PhD

Assistant Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering

Joy's research lies in the intersection of machine learning and biomedical data science. She is interested in developing machine learning models with improved interpretability, fairness, and robustness, especially in the construction of self-explanatory models and stable accuracy performance with respect to data uncertainty. In the field of biomedical data science, she is committed to designing high-performance models for early diagnosis of chronic diseases.
