Mung Chiang
New Dean of Engineering
After an extensive recruitment search, professor Mung Chiang was selected as the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering and the Roscoe H. George Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He succeeded Dr. Leah Jamieson who served as Dean for eleven fruitful years.
Dr. Chiang is a Stanford graduate (B.S., 1999; M.S., 2000; and Ph.D., 2003) and worked as a faculty member in the department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University for ten years, before becoming one of the youngest endowed chair professors at this institution. For his outstanding contributions to the analysis, design, and optimization of wireless networks, Dr. Chiang was granted the National Science Foundation Alan T. Waterman Award and is the only Purdue researcher holding this distinction.
"Purdue's College of Engineering is one of the strongest and one of the largest in the country," said Chiang to Purdue Today. "Its recent growth is remarkable, and its future even brighter. I am humbled by the honor to serve this outstanding college, one that is part of a public university under the visionary leadership of President Daniels. I am eager to start by listening carefully to the faculty, students, staff and alumni of Purdue Engineering."
Patrick Wolf
New Dean of Science
Patrick J. Wolfe, professor of Statistics and Honorary Professor of Computer Science at University College London, joined Purdue as the Frederick L. Hovde Dean of the College of Science.
Dr. Wolfe studied Electrical Engineering and Music at the University of Illinois, and finished his Ph.D. at Cambridge University in 2003 where he held a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. He worked as an Associate professor at Harvard University until 2011, where he received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the White House. He later joined the University College London where he currently serves as Executive Director of the UCL Big Data Institute.
With over 100 years of existence and two Nobelists, the College of Science is home to seven departments, and several interdisciplinary programs. Professor Wolfe will bring a perfect combination of research and academic experience, and under his leadership, the College will keep fostering great minds.
Eric Barker
New Dean of Pharmacy
Dr. Eric Barker has a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University, and two post-doctoral experiences at the same institution and Emory University. He joined the College of Pharmacy at Purdue in 1998 as a professor in the department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology. His research interests include molecular actions of drugs of abuse and other drugs that affect the brain.
After serving as Associate Dean for research in the College of Pharmacy for seven years, Barker has been promoted to Dean of the College which is home for three departments. He will oversee the mission of the College through learning, discovery and engagement. He is committed to the well-being of the College and seeks to achieve the vision of being bold leaders in pharmaceutical discovery, learning and patient care.
