Valerie O’Brien
Director of Internal Communications
Keeping a university as large and dynamic as Purdue informed and connected is no small task — and it’s one Valerie O’Brien approaches with both care and clarity. As director of internal communications, she leads the channels and strategies that keep students, faculty, staff and community members engaged, aligned and informed, including through Purdue Today and Purdue News Weekly.
A Purdue graduate with a degree in professional writing, Valerie began her career in journalism, including time with the Lafayette Journal & Courier. That foundation shapes her approach to internal communications today, where she focuses on delivering timely, relevant information while also elevating the stories that matter most to the university community.
Valerie is passionate about building connection at scale — helping more than 17,000 employees stay informed and invested in the work happening across campus. Through thoughtful messaging and consistent communication, she works to strengthen community, boost morale, and ensure Purdue’s people feel connected to its mission and momentum.
Outside of work, Valerie enjoys curating the perfect playlist for any moment, from quiet walks to road trips. She also loves to travel and spend time outdoors.
