Tom Schott

Tom Schott’s career in communications started early — with a self-published baseball magazine at age 12 — and has never strayed far from a love of storytelling. Today, as senior director of executive communications at Purdue University, he brings that same energy and precision to crafting messages for university leadership, including the Board of Trustees, Office of the President and Office of the Provost. 

Tom has been part of the Purdue community since 1990, building a career that includes nearly three decades in Purdue Athletics communications. That experience shaped his ability to communicate in high-visibility environments, balancing clarity, accuracy and voice across a wide range of audiences. 

His honors include the Lifetime Achievement Award from College Sports Communicators, a Purdue For Life Impact Award, the Helping Hand Award from the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, and the Dr. Robert M. Strimer Honor Award from his alma mater, Ohio Wesleyan University. 

A prolific writer, Tom has authored and co-authored four books on Purdue sports, with additional work appearing in numerous magazines, newspapers and publications. He is a strong advocate for public education and has served on both the West Lafayette Community School Corp. board of trustees and the West Lafayette Schools Education Foundation board of directors. 

Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and continues to find inspiration in the craft of storytelling — a through line that has defined his career from the very beginning.
