Kate Young

Kate Young brings a journalist’s curiosity and a broadcaster’s instincts to her role as director, host and producer of the award-winning “This Is Purdue” podcast. She is one of the driving forces behind the official university podcast, where her optimism, enthusiasm and genuine curiosity help bring the people, ideas and stories of Purdue to life. 

A Purdue graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the Brian Lamb School of Communication, Kate initially envisioned a career in broadcasting. She spent several years as a digital producer, reporter and sports communications professional before discovering podcasting, where she found an opportunity to combine her love of journalism with the freedom to explore stories in greater depth. 

Through “This Is Purdue,” Kate has interviewed Boilermakers from across the university and beyond, including Purdue President Mitch Daniels and football legend Drew Brees, as well as experts and leaders working in research, artificial intelligence, engineering, athletics and other fields. She is passionate about asking thoughtful questions and giving listeners a deeper understanding of the people and ideas shaping Purdue. 

A dedicated podcast listener herself, Kate can often be found listening while running, cooking, driving or folding laundry. She also has a soft spot for reality TV and all things pop culture — she would be a formidable opponent at any “Bachelor” or “Bachelorette” trivia night.
