PURCE presentation to focus on affordable housing in Indiana
The Purdue University Research Center in Economics (PURCE) is offering a lunchtime presentation Wednesday (Oct. 5) that will focus on “The Changing Location of Affordable Housing in Indiana.” Registration for the event is due today (Oct. 3).
Housing in Indiana remains the most affordable in the nation, although significant gaps in affordability still exist for some households. Recent research suggests significant increases in lifetime earnings for impoverished children raised in moderate-income neighborhoods, although the majority of subsidized housing is located in the highest poverty areas.
Mike Eriksen, director of the Dean V. White Real Estate Finance Program and professor of economics, will discuss changing trends in income and housing affordability within and across Indiana, especially as compared to regional peers. He will also discuss how recently enacted federal policies will affect incentives for both developers and low-income households in where subsidized housing is located across the state.
Eriksen will conclude with suggestions on how policymakers can make housing even more affordable in the future despite anticipated population growth.
The talk will be held 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Rawls Hall's Third Floor Commons. Lunch will be provided. To attend, RSVP online. Parking is available in Grant Street Parking Garage; parking passes are available at check-in upon request.
