The Title IX Distinguished Service Award
In honor of the 40th anniversary of the enactment of Title IX, the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance presented on October 11, 2012 Purdue's Title IX Distinguished Service Award. The following 40 individuals were recognized and honored for their significant contributions to the advancement of gender equity in education. Nomination criteria.

Purdue Alumni Carole Oglesby was presented with the 2013 Health and Human Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Carole Oglesby has spent her life as a champion for equality for women in sport and physical activity. She recieved a Ph.D from Purdue in Sports Psychology. From 1962 to 1974 she coached basketball, volleyball and softball at Mt St Mary's College, Purdue University and University of Massachusetts with two teams making it all the way to the College World Series. She championed the spirit of Title IX before its creation and we present our congratulations for her achievements. Dr. Oglesby is seen in the photo attending the NCAA's annual Inclusion Forum.
Purdue Marketing and Media has produced a video discussing the legacy of Title IX. The video is entitled Boiler Bytes: Legacy of Title IX and was aired on the Big Ten Network on April 19, 2013. The video features former and current Purdue coaches and athletes as well as a NCAA representative.
The YouTube channel MAKERSWomen created a brief video of Purdue University's President Emeritus France Córdova discussing the impact of Title IX in the classroom. The video is entitled France Córdova: Title IX in the Classroom. The MAKERSWomen YouTube channel also contains a video playlist focusing on interviewing women about Women in Sports and Title IX.

Title IX @ 40: Looking Back, Moving Forward
Title IX @ 40: Looking Back, Moving Forward conference will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm in the Shively Club located in Ross-Ade Pavilion. The day’s events will include presentations and panel discussions on Title IX’s impact on Purdue, women’s sports and education over the past 40 years. Speakers will also address future challenges and opportunities. Dr. Joni Comstock, former Purdue University Senior Associate Athletic Director and currently Senior Vice President of Championships for the NCAA will be the Keynote speaker.
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 was signed into law on June 23, 1972, by President Richard M. Nixon. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.
The event is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance, Diversity Resource Office, Intercollegiate Athletics, Office of Institutional Equity, Purdue Alumni Association, the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence, Women of Purdue, Purdue University Women's Studies Program, and Women’s Resource Network.
