10th Annual Relationship to Partnership Sessions
Purdue's Award Winning Supplier Diversity Program
In 2005 Purdue University took steps to enhance their supplier diversity activities and recruited a well known small diverse business advocate to lead their efforts to increase the contracts awarded to Indiana women and minority businesses. Since then Purdue University has become recognized as one of the premier supplier diversity programs in higher education in America.
The focus of the program has been outreach. The small staff of 3 people work tirelessly to introduce the diverse business community to decision makers at each of the 3 campuses; Purdue Calumet, Purdue North Central at Westfield, Purdue University-Indiana University at Fort Wayne and the main campus at West Lafayette. The cornerstone of the outreach efforts of the Purdue Supplier Diversity staff is the Relationship to Partnership Sessions that take place each November. R2P as it is known is structured to introduce the attending diverse businesses to decision makers from the Supplier Diversity Coalition of Greater Lafayette. The Coalition members are the larger employers of Tippecanoe County, each committed to expanding opportunities to women and minority firms.
Additionally Purdue University participated in the Disparity Study that was commissioned by the State of Indiana. Purdue's response to the findings in the study has produced a new stronger initiative entitled ACCESS, (Advocating Consistent Contracting to Engage Small Business Success). This program is designed to give even more muscle to an already dynamic commitment to the success of Indiana women and minority businesses.
Our office has received numerous awards over the last 7 years. Among them are: 2005-Award from Minority Health coalition of Tippecanoe County; 2006-Indiana State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Bronze Sponsorship Award; 2006-2011-Indiana Business Opportunity Fair (IBOF) Bronze Sponsorship Award; 2007-NAWBO Indy Choice Award; 2007-Champions of Diversity Award from Indiana Minority Business; 2008-SBA Award to Larry Pherson and Bill Ensign for founding the Supplier Diversity Development Coalition of Greater Lafayette; 2008-Jesse Moore honored at the Elected & Appointed Officials Reception at the Black Expo; 2010-2011-Workplace Diversity Best Practices Award from Greater Lafayette Commerce; 2011-Jesse Moore received Champions of Diversity Award from DiveristyBusiness.com in Washington, DC.
