The Program Committee plans and coordinates monthly luncheon meetings for Purdue retirees at the MCL Restaurant. These meetings are held on the first Monday of each month except September when no luncheon meeting is scheduled due to the Labor Day holiday on the first Monday, and the PURA Kickoff Luncheon, which occurs near that time.
Guests start arriving around 11 a.m. for their cash-and-carry cafeteria lunch. The program coordinator for the month presides and starts the program around noon with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an invocation or moment of inspiration and music (both optional), officer and committee chair announcements, and first-timer and birthday self-introductions. At about 12:30 p.m. the program coordinator introduces the speaker, who has been asked to finish his/her presentation around 1 p.m.
The Program Committee's only regular meeting occurs during the PURA Annual Planning Meeting in late May or early June. During that meeting, the committee agrees on a list of potential speakers for the program year, September through August. After the Annual Planning Meeting, committee communication is via e-mail, telephone and personal contact at monthly luncheon meetings. Each committee member is expected to coordinate one monthly meeting each year. Typically speakers are Purdue faculty and administrators and community leaders in a variety of organizations and subjects.
Members of the committee are:
- Roy Johnson, co-chair, email@example.com
- John Schneider, co-chair, firstname.lastname@example.org
- Sue Abney
- Jane Brown
- Sara Harlan
- Sandy Komasinski
- Lyle Lloyd
- Reuben Perterson
- Tom Robertson
Due to normal attrition, this committee in particular needs several new members each year -- most starting their terms during the Annual Planning Meeting. Purdue retirees and spouses are eligible for membership in this or any other PURA committee. Appointments are for a three-year term with membership limited to six consecutive years (two three-year terms). Anyone interested in joining this committee or any other, should contact the committee chair.
