Fall 2016 Cooking Demonstrations

All of our scheduled cooking demonstrations cost $10, take place in the Demonstration Kitchen, and are open to Purdue Affiliates only. Sign up at the Member Services desk, or by calling 765.494.3109.

The Demonstration Kitchen strives to make cooking accessible to everyone, by demonstrating delicious recipes and menus that are quick, easy and affordable. We provide a variety of demonstrations and programs in order to accommodate varying interests, ages, and abilities. Our Student Cooking Instructors will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and food sanitation guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared during the demonstration you attend. Recipes cards are provided.

Please register at least 24 hours in advance of your desired program.

Curry in a Hurry

Interested in learning tips for making Indian dishes authentic and healthy?  Looking to try new herbs and spices?  Explore Indian cuisine in this exciting new cooking demonstration.  Recipes will include Baked Chicken Breasts with Cilantro Mint Chutney, Fall Vegetable Curry, and Indian Ancient Grain Salad.

Restaurant Meals Made at Home

Tired of dining out all the time? Sick of wasting your money on takeout? Learn how to make your favorite restaurant dishes at home by coming to this brand new demo! Recipes include Bruschetta, Creamy Fettuccini Alfredo, Lemon Garlic Spinach Salad, and New York Style Cheesecake.

Quinoa is a gluten-free grain, rich in protein, iron and fiber. This class will demonstrate a variety of creative recipes, designed to help you incorporate this “super-food” into your cooking routine.

One Pot Meals

Love cooking but hate washing dishes? Sick of slaving over multiple pots and pans? If you answered yes, this is the cooking demo for you! Each of these recipes are made using only one pot or pan. Recipes include Homemade Gumbo, Open-Faced Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, and Thai Curry with Noodles.

Gluten Free Foods

Gluten is a protein found in a variety of foods and following a gluten-free diet can be challenging. This class will provide information about foods that you already eat that are gluten-free and help you find substitutes for gluten-containing foods that you can enjoy. Recipes include Cinnamon Breakfast Quinoa, Chicken Parmesan, and Chocolate Cake.

Dine Like the Dutch

Do you love trying new food form different cultures but can't afford to travel? Have you ever heard of gehaktbal? Come to this cooking demonstration to learn about Dutch culture and try some traditional dishes straight from the heart of Amsterdam. Cozy up in our kitchen and taste some delicious Dutch comfort food including Dutch-style meatballs, Hete Bliksem- a potato dish, and much more!

Midwestern Classics

This class will provide local, budget-friendly recipes and will also discuss tips for saving money when you cook and shop for groceries. Learn how to make Thyme and Dijon Crusted Pork Tenderloin, Cornmeal Mash, Sautéed Zucchini, and Zucchini Walnut Bread.

Comfort Foods Redesigned

Brain Foods for Finals

Join students from NUTR 424 as they present free “mini-demonstrations,” designed to teach you how to maximize your brain power through nutrition!  A variety of recipes and nutrition information will be shared to help you improve your concentration, energy and brain functioning during final exam week.
