Fall 2017 Cooking Demonstrations

All of our scheduled cooking demonstrations cost $10, take place in the Demonstration Kitchen, and are open to Purdue Affiliates only. Sign up at the Member Services desk, fill out the online registration form, or by calling 765.494.3109.

The Demonstration Kitchen strives to make cooking accessible to everyone, by demonstrating delicious recipes and menus that are quick, easy and affordable. We provide a variety of demonstrations and programs in order to accommodate varying interests, ages, and abilities. Our Student Cooking Instructors will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and food sanitation guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared during the demonstration you attend. Recipes cards are provided.

PROTEIN SHAKES AND SNACKS
Monday, September 11, 7–8pm
Want the inside scoop on how to refuel properly before and after exercise? Learn how to incorporate protein into a delicious shake or snack at this demonstration! Recipes include Homemade Cliff Bars, Classic Strawberry Smoothie, Vanilla Bean Smoothie, Blueberry Pineapple Dream Smoothie, Orange-Peach Smoothie, and your own homemade snack mix!

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
Tuesday, September 19, 7–8pm
Try a unique twist on the most important meal of the day at this cooking demonstration!  Learn quick and easy recipes to help jumpstart your day. Recipes include Apple Pancake Casserole, Asparagus and Cheese Popover with Spicy Herb Oil and Flourless Banana Oatmeal Pancakes.

WOK YOUR WORLD
Thursday, September 28, 7-8pm
Interested in expanding your palate into the world of Asian cuisine? Come to this demo and let us “wok your world” with some simple dishes to incorporate into your everyday routine. Recipes include Vegetarian Pot Stickers, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Three Ingredient Green Tea Ice Cream.

ONE POT MEALS
Tuesday, October 3, 7-8pm
Love cooking but hate washing dishes? Sick of using multiple pots and pans? If you answered yes, this is the cooking demo for you! Each of these recipes are made using only one pot or pan. Recipes include Homemade Gumbo, Open-Faced Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, and Thai Curry with Noodles.

ROMANTIC RECIPES FOR TWO
Thursday, October 19, 7-8pm
With Sweetest Day right around the corner, this cooking demonstration will provide the necessary skills to create a delicious & romantic meal for you sweetheart. Recipes include Marinated Flank Steak with Avocado Garlic Sauce, Greek Yogurt Mashed Potatoes, Spinach Salad with Fresh Raspberries and Pecans, and Chocolate Lava Cakes. 

MIDWESTERN CLASSICS
Monday, October 23, 7-8pm
This class will provide local, budget-friendly recipes and will also discuss tips for saving money when you cook and shop for groceries. Learn how to make Thyme and Dijon Crusted Pork Tenderloin, Parmesan Cornmeal Mash, Sautéed Zucchini, and Zucchini Walnut Bread. 

RESTAURANT MEALS MADE AT HOME
Wednesday, November 1, 7-8pm
Tired of dining out all the time? Sick of wasting your money on takeout? Learn how to make your favorite restaurant dishes at home by coming to this demo! Recipes include Bruschetta, Creamy Fettuccini Alfredo, Lemon Garlic Spinach Salad, and New York Style Cheesecake. 

DECADENT DESSERTS
Monday, November 6, 7-8pm
Calling all dessert lovers! Satisfy your sweet tooth at this cooking demonstration and learn the meaning of “Everything in Moderation!” Recipes include a Caramel Pear Crisp, Black Bean Brownies, Choco-Coffee Cupcakes, and Hazelnut Chocolate Caramel Lattes. 

COMFORT FOODS REDESIGNED
Tuesday, November 14, 7-8pm
Learn how to give your favorite comfort foods a makeover so they are guilt-free and still delicious! This class will demonstrate how to make Honey Cayenne Chicken Tenders, Spinach Mac and Cheese, and Carrot Cake Cookies.

BRAIN FOODS FOR FINALS
Tuesday, December 5, 6-10pm
Join students from NUTR 424 as they present free “mini-demonstrations,” designed to teach you how to maximize your brain power through nutrition! A variety of recipes and nutrition information will be shared to help you improve your concentration during finals week.

Crockpot Complete Meals for Four

All of our crockpot cooking classes cost $20, take place in the Demonstration Kitchen, and are open to Purdue Affiliates only. Sign up at the Member Services desk, fill out the online registration form, or by calling 765.494.3109.

Who wants to be cooped up in a hot kitchen after a long and busy week? Let our Cooking Instructors solve the problem of “what’s for dinner?” by helping you with your Friday night dinner plans. We take care of the menu planning and shopping, you get to help with prep and leave with a yummy meal for four! All this for just $20- that’s only $5 per serving! Perfect for a big group, a family, or leftovers for the weekend. Recipes are made in a crockpot, so remember to bring yours from home! No crockpot? No worries! Bring along a container to take your meal with you and cook at home when ready!
