Sping 2018 Cooking Demonstrations

All of our scheduled cooking demonstrations cost $10, take place in the Demonstration Kitchen, and are open to Purdue Affiliates only. Sign up at the Member Services desk, fill out the online registration form, or by calling 765.494.3109.

The Demonstration Kitchen strives to make cooking accessible to everyone, by demonstrating delicious recipes and menus that are quick, easy and affordable. We provide a variety of demonstrations and programs in order to accommodate varying interests, ages, and abilities. Our Student Cooking Instructors will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and food sanitation guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared during the demonstration you attend. Recipes cards are provided.

Tuesday, February 13, 7-8pm
With Valentine's Day right around the corner, this cooking demonstration will provide the necessary skills to create a delicious & romantic meal for you sweetheart. Recipes include Marinated Flank Steak with Avocado Garlic Sauce, Greek Yogurt Mashed Potatoes, Spinach Salad with Fresh Raspberries and Pecans, and Chocolate Lava Cakes. 

Thursday, February 22, 7-8pm
This class will discuss the health benefits of eating vegetarian meals, provide non-meat protein sources and recipes for appealing vegetarian meals. Learn how to make Vegetable Quiche, White Bean Dip, and Spinach and Sun-dried Tomato Calzones.

Monday, February 26, 7-8pm
Gluten is a protein found in a variety of foods and following a gluten-free diet can be challenging. This class will provide information about foods that you already eat that are gluten-free and help you find substitutes for gluten-containing foods that you can enjoy. Recipes include Cinnamon Breakfast Quinoa, Chicken Parmesan, and Chocolate Cake.

Tuesday, March 6, 7-8pm
Clean eating is about fueling your body with natural food sources and reducing the amount of processed food in your diet. This class will teach you how to easily make some of your favorite processed foods, including peanut butter, baked chips with guacamole, roasted vegetables, and ice cream.

Thursday, March 22, 7-8pm
Tired of dining out all the time? Sick of wasting your money on takeout? Learn how to make your favorite restaurant dishes at home by coming to this demo! Recipes include Bruschetta, Creamy Fettuccini Alfredo, Lemon Garlic Spinach Salad, and New York Style Cheesecake. 

Thursday, March 29, 7-8pm
Calling all dessert lovers! Satisfy your sweet tooth at this cooking demonstration and learn the meaning of “Everything in Moderation!” Recipes include a Caramel Pear Crisp, Black Bean Brownies, Choco-Coffee Cupcakes, and Hazelnut Chocolate Caramel Lattes. 

Wednesday, April 4, 7-8pm
Super Foods are nutrient-rich foods that are considered to be particularly good for your health and well-being. This demonstration will show you how to make recipes using a variety of super foods, such as Baked Parmesan Kale Chips, PB&J Smoothie, Thai Peanut Slaw, and Blueberry Scones.

Tuesday, April 10, 7-8pm
Quinoa is a gluten-free grain, rich in protein, iron and fiber.  This class will demonstrate a variety of creative recipes, designed to help you incorporate this “super-food” into your cooking routine.

Tuesday, April 24, 7-8pm
Struggling to get through study hours and need some extra energy? Come learn about foods that can increase brain activity, help you power through studying, and leave you feeling energized for the next day! Recipes for this demo include Vegetable Frittata with Avocado Herb Sauce, Mixed Nut Butter, Baked Parmesan Kale Chips, and Black Bean Brownies.

Crockpot Complete Meals for Four

All of our crockpot cooking classes cost $20, take place in the Demonstration Kitchen, and are open to Purdue Affiliates only. Sign up at the Member Services desk, fill out the online registration form, or by calling 765.494.3109.

Who wants to be cooped up in a hot kitchen after a long and busy week? Let our Cooking Instructors solve the problem of “what’s for dinner?” by helping you with your Friday night dinner plans. We take care of the menu planning and shopping, you get to help with prep and leave with a yummy meal for four! All this for just $20- that’s only $5 per serving! Perfect for a big group, a family, or leftovers for the weekend. Recipes are made in a crockpot, so remember to bring yours from home! No crockpot? No worries! Bring along a container to take your meal with you and cook at home when ready!
