Writer Ranier Maningding to speak Nov. 16 at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Ranier Maningding, who writes the blog "Love Life of an Asian Guy," will speak at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in Krannert Auditorium. His talk, which is free and open to the public, will include a question-and-answer session.

Maningding will discuss the role of Asian Americans in the movement for social justice. He also will talk about the impact of the presidential election on the Asian American community.

The event is being co-sponsored by Purdue's Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center, LGBTQ Center, Latino Cultural Center, Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership Development, Asian American Studies Program, Creative Writing Program and several student organizations.

"We are truly excited and honored to bring a youthful, contemporary voice to campus that represents Asian American concerns in a way that seeks to promote cross-cultural engagement and critical thinking," said Xavier Hernandez, AAARCC director.

Started in 2014 as a commentary on inter-racial dating, "Love Life of an Asian Guy" recently shifted to social justice-focused content. The blog now has more than 160,000 "likes" on Facebook. Maninding's work also has appeared in Mic and Huffington Post.
