Multiple campus construction projects taking place over the summer

May 9, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Following spring commencement, there will be an increase in construction on and around the West Lafayette campus. Students, faculty, staff and visitors should be cautious in areas where work is taking place.

Current construction information is and will continue to be available on the Physical Facilities Construction Notices and Maps website at www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/construction_notices.html.

The following information is a synopsis of the projects taking place this summer that will impact travel around campus, but it is not all-inclusive. There will also be an abundance of other projects, such as roof replacements, landscaping and maintenance activities.

Stadium Avenue and Stadium Mall Infrastructure Work

Infrastructure work in the area on and immediately adjacent to Stadium Mall will necessitate the erection of construction fencing in the area and the closure of Stadium Avenue between North University Street and Northwestern Avenue from May 19 until mid-August. This closure will affect all lanes of traffic on Stadium Avenue, and motorists are advised to use Cherry Lane and either Steven C. Beering Drive or John R. Wooden Drive. Some of the sidewalks in the area will be unavailable, so pedestrians are reminded to be cautious and obey all posted signs.

Active Learning Center/Heat and Power North and Engineering Administration Building Demolition

The demolition of the retired Heat and Power North Plant (HPN) and the Engineering Administration Building (ENAD) will begin in mid-June, and construction fencing will be put in place beforehand. Pedestrians should be cautious in the area and obey all posted signs. There will be an increase in construction traffic in the area and on Oval Drive through mid-August. The demolition will be ongoing until construction of the Active Learning Center begins in May 2015.

College of Engineering Strategic Growth Renovations Phase 1- Grissom Hall

Phase 1 of the College of Engineering Strategic Growth project consists of the renovation of Grissom Hall, and in order to accommodate this work, staff located in Grissom Hall will be relocated to Wang Hall for approximately one year. Parking spaces located on the west side of Grissom Hall will be unavailable beginning May 19.

Third Street Infrastructure Project

In order to perform infrastructure maintenance between the Armory and Haas Hall, a section of Third Street east of North University Street (along with some of the sidewalks in the area) will be closed from mid-May until the beginning of August. Motorists will still be able to access parking spaces near the Elliott Hall of Music through the parking lot north of the Armory.

City of West Lafayette Russell and Grant Street Resurfacing

The City of West Lafayette will be resurfacing North Russell Street and Grant Street, with the work scheduled to be completed by early August. The roads will remain open to traffic during the projects, but motorists should allow extra travel time when planning a trip through one of these areas. The complete City of West Lafayette summer construction map is available on its website at www.westlafayette.in.gov/department/division.php?fDD=5-205
