United Way pledge packets being mailed to retirees; Vanguards to gear up 2017 campaign

As part of pacesetter efforts this year, Purdue's retirees, Vanguard donors and potential Vanguard donors will receive mailed pledge packets at their home addresses for the 2017 United Way of Greater Lafayette Campaign.

Vanguard donors are those who have previously donated $1,000 or more per household per year to United Way. Vanguards' donations ensure that 100 percent of all other donations directly benefit the 21 United Way participating organizations and other United Way programs, which serve children, adults and families in Tippecanoe and many surrounding counties.

Dr. Willie Reed, chair of Purdue's 2017 United Way campaign and dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, says, "I am truly excited to have the opportunity to act as chair of this year's Purdue United Way campaign. Years of selfless donation, whether in time or money, have made the Purdue community an essential part of the local United Way and its mission to further education, make families stronger and enrich lives."

The Purdue United Way Campaign's theme this year is "United We WIN." Purdue's campaign will kick off on Aug. 31 and will run through Nov. 15. Purdue's campaign goal is $785,000. Rhonda Phillips, dean of the Honors College, is the vice chair.
